SJTU President meets Confucius Institute Board

Board Members of the Confucius Institute at UNSW meet with SJTU’s President, Professor Lin Zhongqin.

On September 1, the Board of the Confucius Institute at UNSW met with President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), Professor Lin Zhongqin. The meeting was attended by the Institute’s distinguished Board Members including Laurie Pearcey, Pro Vice-Chancellor International and Director of the Confucius Institute at UNSW; Dr Jim Harrowell AM, Partner at Hunt & Hunt Lawyers; and Associate Professor Emma Xi, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at UNSW.

SJTU President, Lin Zhongqin, highly commended the Institute’s efforts in promoting Chinese culture and education, and thanked the ongoing support of UNSW. President Lin expressed his hope for strengthened links between the two universities through further collaboration and exchanges.

Laurie Pearcey reported on the Confucius Institute at UNSW’s work over the past two years and noted the encouraging development of engagement both within the university and without. The Board also reviewed the 2016 Annual Report and discussed the future direction of the Institute, including involvement with the Torch Innovation Project and establishment of a Chinese Folk Music discipline at UNSW.
